It is often a topic of conversation, is it better to underexpose a photo or overexpose a photo? People seem to have their own ideas about this.
I will be the first one to tell you that there is no right or wrong way to take a photo, it is all in the artist’s eye, he/she is the one trying to tell a story. That being said, I always expose for the sky, this guarantees that I never lose it. What exactly does that mean? That means that if I expose my sky correctly, the odds of me blowing it out are slim to none. I can always bring out the shadows in post.
Nowadays technology is so good that a RAW file has lots and lots of information to pull from, allowing you the creator to get away with a lot.
