Mating Asiatic Lions
On an early morning game drive i was fortunate enough to witness these Asiatic lions mate. The atmosphere was electrifying and tense with brief moments of calm
Unlike their African cousins, the Asiatic lions are small in built and the males have a less pronounced mane. These lions also have a distinct longitudinal fold of skin running along its belly. Once their range extended all the way from Persia to Central India, however today they are only found in the souther parts of the state of Gujrat in India. At 525 lions in the wild, they are classified as endangered. What made this moment special was to see that the conservation efforts of the forest department were paying off and that in just a few months these forests would echo with the sounds of little lions playing.
